Traqauir House
Dating back to 1107 and still lived in by the Stuart family since 1491, Traquair is Scotland’s oldest inhabited House. Open 6 days a week (closed Fridays) and 7 days during July and August we offer the visitor lots to explore. Immerse yourself in the history of the House, from its early days as a hunting lodge, playing host to Mary Queen of Scots, through to the Jacobite uprising, to the home it has become today for Catherine Maxwell Stuart, 21st Laird, and her family.
The extensive grounds are open to explore, including Scotland’s largest hedged maze, ancient yew trees and woodlands, children’s play area, the peaceful walled garden and the Quair River running through the estate into the River Tweed. We also have one of the oldest working breweries in Britain, dating back to the 18th century, and visitors can sample and purchase ales from our shop, as well as visiting a number of independent craft workshops in the grounds. Our Old Walled Garden Cafe is open for teas and lunches throughout the season. Throughout the year we host a number of events from the wildly popular Medieval Fayre in May, to family fun at Easter and Halloween and a Victorian Christmas Fayre.

There’s a real sense of community in the Tweed Valley – whether that’s working together on activities such as the Tweed Valley canoe trail, hosting the Muck and Mac Festival, providing the back drop for Shakespeare at Traquair or simply welcoming visitors, local schools and organisations from across the region.
What we offer
Traquair offers an annual season pass which is tremendous value! Buy a pass and individuals or families may come into the grounds as often as they want throughout the year. Passes can also be bought for the House and grounds, and Patrons of Traquair receive free entry, priority booking for events, and discounts in the Gift and Brewery shops.
We offer plenty space to park your car, or your bike, as well as a unique campervan stopover for just 3 vans. And if you’re following the Canoe Trail, Traquair has a spot by our fishing hut you can book for wild camping. Or for a little more comfort, we have 3 beautiful antique furnished B&B guest rooms open all year round.
